TSHA shares innovative video for "Sister" by Illustrator and animator Alice Bloomfield.
TSHA’s 360-degree experiential music video for “Sister”, one of the first of its kind, was first shown in November 2022 at Outernet London. The multi-screen immersive video was created by British illustrator and animator Alice Bloomfield, and screened on the Outernet’s four storey, floor to ceiling, 360-degree, 16k screen surface – the most advanced on the planet – through December and into January. Completely re-edited and adapted for online, the new version is launched today on TSHA’s YouTube channel.
Using a VR headset to simulate the space, director Alice Bloomfield worked with the Outernet team over a two-year production process to map the animation across their unique screens and visualise how the video would play out. The resulting film creates an arcadian manga-inspired world.
“Every single frame of the animation is hand drawn… I’ve never created anything on this scale before,” says Alice. “But TSHA’s track was really nice to work with as it’s so open to interpretation”.
Taken from her acclaimed debut album, ‘Capricorn Sun’, “Sister” is a vibrant piece of music packed with melody and emotion. It was originally written during the UK’s first lockdown after TSHA found out she had an older half-sister via her estranged father, speaking about the track she says,
“I’m very happy to have a new member of my family as I’ve not had much of that in my life. The song is an expression of all of those feelings.”
The project was the first commission from the Outernet and Ridley Scott Creative Group production company Black Dog Films as part of the TMRW NW commission – an initiative that aims to discover young creatives capable of producing films and A/V content that fully utilises the Outernet’s screen scale, definition, and configuration, with “Sister” forming the blueprint for the future of experiential videos.
One of the hottest artists in the UK music scene in 2022, TSHA’s debut album ‘Capricorn Sun’ arrived after an unstoppable rise built on a series of critically acclaimed singles and career defining DJ sets. Hotly tipped by everyone from Annie Mac, Bonobo and Gorillaz to Billboard, NME, Crack, Mixmag and DJ Mag, London-based artist TSHA is one of the most exciting talents in electronic music. Named ‘Breakthrough Artist of the Year’ at the BBC R1 Dance Awards 2021, and she finished 2022 with her debut album winning “Best Album of the Year” by DJ Mag.
Hugely in-demand by both her peers and wider industry; in the past 12 months, TSHA has collaborated with Diplo, Aluna & HONNE. She played 100+ shows across the globe, including opening for Disclosure at London's Alexandra Palace, performing to 40,000 fans across the West Coast of America with Bob Moses, a run of North American shows with Flume — including a stop at Colorado’s iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre — a festival run that included multiple sets at Glastonbury, Lollapalooza and Portola, a sold-out debut headline set at Elsewhere in Brooklyn, a residency at Ibiza’s iconic DC-10 for Circoloco, and a prime-time set at Honey Dijon’s "Back 2 Black” showcase in Amsterdam alongside Floorplan, Kerri Chandler and more.
She also hosted her very own BBC Radio 1 Residency, and graced magazine covers and billboards across the UK and US for the likes of Mixmag, Spotify, YouTube — who also announced her as one of 30 artists globally to be added to their flagship artist development program: Foundry Class of 2022, and Amazon UK.
