Mazey Haze

Mazey Haze announces Spacey Jane support tour and shares prowling 60's psych-rock single "Kill Me I Got You", new EP 'Back to the Start' out 7th April.

Ahead of the release of her new EP 'Back to the Start' on 7th April via LUSTRE, indie-rock rising talent Mazey Haze (aka Amsterdam based musician Nadine Appeldoorn) has revealed her new single "Kill Me I Got You" - accompanied by a black & white 16mm music video, shot in Hervelinghen, France by Wietger Mosch; inspired by the Swedish film ‘Kärlek 65’, and Mr. Bean.

Written about sacrificing your own personal authenticity to appease someone else's desires, the prowling, 60s psych-rock rhythm of “Kill Me I Got You” is an exercise in recognising patterns within herself in relationships. With this song, Appeldoorn feels she has at last gotten to know herself, no matter how uncomfortable those moments of self-reflection may be:

“I’ve learned that I should never force things with other people and be honest with myself and others – and I shouldn’t be afraid to communicate that.”

Speaking more on the lyrical inspiration of new single "Kill Me I Got You", Appeldoorn said:

"It’s about how the search for a profound, real connection with other people can be confusing, lonely and complicated. Why do I ‘kill’ myself to be who someone else wants me to be just so I can be with them?"

Following a string of European tour dates supporting Paolo Nutini and Feng Suave alongside widely praised performances at this year's edition of Eurosonic Festival, Mazey Haze will embark on a brief stint of European tour dates in support of the EP in April, with stops in London, Paris, Amsterdam and more.

Released in 2021, Mazey Haze's debut EP 'Always Dancing' heralded an artist whose taste belied her years, looking at pop through an otherworldly, psychedelic prism.

Toning down the more ethereal, synthetic textures present on her debut EP, Mazey Haze's new material finds her rooting herself to the earth, together with a little less perfectionism. Organic, acoustic sounds, her love of French New Wave cinema, Italian film scores and 60s psych-rock informs the vein of nostalgia that runs through it, finding its way back to a distant world. Upcoming EP 'Back To The Start' is reflective of a desire for simplicity: a collage of self-reflection, where thought, feeling and a powerful sense of place merge to make singular worlds that are entirely her own. For the first time, with the release of upcoming EP 'Back to the Start', Appeldoorn has reclaimed her own narrative, centralising her own experience rather than being a mere footnote in someone else’s. Retracing her steps so far, while driven by the desire to progress, Mazey Haze is always learning, and we’ll be learning with her. Mazey Haze has been warmly welcomed at press, alongside widespread Dutch radio support (NPO 3FM, NPO Radio 1, KINK and Radio Veronica) and over 1 million streams of the project to date. Mazey Haze has also excelled in the live domain, heading out on UK and European tours in support of acts including Paolo Nutini, Feng Suave and Spacey Jane as well as playing at an official Tame Impala afterparty. Mazey Haze's new EP 'Back to the Start' is out 7th April via LUSTRE. New single "Kill Me I Got You" is out now. Mazey Haze will tour the EP in April with stops in London, Paris and further dates in Belgium and the Netherlands.
