Geneva Jacuzzi shares new single "Laps of Luxury" from new album 'Triple Fire' out this week, August 23rd, via Dais Records.
Los Angeles-based bedroom synth pop pioneer, DIY darkwave stalwart, multi-hyphenate renaissance artist & performer Geneva Jacuzzi shares new single “Laps Of Luxury” with a visualiser just ahead of the release of 'Triple Fire', her third full-length and first since signing with Dais Records, out this Friday, August 23rd, 2024.
“Laps of Luxury” opens 'Triple Fire' and sets the template – a strobe-lit dreamer’s delight of swaggering synth bass, Haçienda drum machinery, and sultry vocal spellcasting (“Tragic mysteries I’ve known for centuries / I burned all memories and turned to fantasy”).
Geneva Jacuzzi shares:
“‘Laps of Luxury’ is one of my favorite tracks on Triple Fire. We spent the most time perfecting it in the studio. I was listening to a lot of Pet Shop Boys at the time and wanted to capture the light/dark ghostly dreamscape of castles and discos from another time.
The lyrics are quite haunting and vague. The character is escaping in a car late at night. Processing the experiences that flood her mind and recounting them to the driver.
‘I’ve seen so many things/no one should ever see’… What did she see?!?! Poor thing. Obviously something unspeakable. One could only imagine.”
“Laps Of Luxury” follows July's single “Scene Ballerina,” which opens with the vivid lines: “As soon as the beat drops/You’ll never catch her standing still/ Overstimulation/ Twirling like a rumor mill.”
The song’s release was accompanied by a gorgeous, captivating video directed by Thalia Mavros, inspired by their mutual appreciate for Ken Russell’s film ‘Women in Love’ and starring Geneva Jacuzzi as a desperate protagonist, making futile attempts to gain attention and admiration at a party surrounded by people who want nothing to do with her, again joined by co-stars Byron Adams and Peter Kalisch who appeared in the video for June’s “Art Is Dangerous.” “Scene Ballerina” was named by international media outlets as Songs You Need In Your Life upon its release.
Scorching lead single “Art Is Dangerous,”a mixture of sexy, sly, post-apocalyptic camp and Factory Records-esque drum machinery, flickering between the chic and surreal, was released with the announcement of Triple Fire, accompanied by an equallyarresting yet celebratory video that Geneva created and stars in featuring numerous cameos from a variety of artists in her orbit, including Weyes Blood, Dynasty Handbag, Boy Harsher’s Jae Matthews, Mac DeMarco, Ron Athey, King Woman, Seth Bogart, and many, many more.
According to Geneva:
"I come from the lineage of Los Angeles's art and music 'underground,' which is quite special and full of incredible friends and people who motivate me. I’m a solo artist but I cherish my community of people who inspire me and wanted to share this debut with everyone."
“Dry,”a piece of retro-futurist body music about disconnection and uncertainty, also appears on the album, originally released as a surprisesinglein April accompanied by astriking black & white video which features Geneva suspended upside down, referencing the Hanged Man in tarot.
