Honduran-Canadian producer/musician, Daniela Andrade shares new single 'Puddles' & announces EP Nothing Much Has Changed, I Don't Feel The Same, out September 30, 2020.
The critically-acclaimed Honduran-Canadian artist and producer, Daniela Andrade returns with her new self-produced single, ‘Puddles’, the first to be taken from a forthcoming EP titled Nothing much has changed, I don't feel the same which is set for release via Crooked Lid Records on September 30, 2020 .
The new music is the first from Andrade since her 2019 EP, Tamale that found support at NPR, Billboard, Red Bull Music, and more; it was a collection of music that cemented Andrade’s mesmerizing web of syrupy R&B, smoldering electronica and downtempo soul that found Complex naming her as one of’20 Canadian Artists to Watch Out For in 2020’.
‘Puddles’ and the forthcoming EP arrive as a product of quarantine, written by Andrade as a way of coping with inertia and a lull whilst trying to work on what will be her debut album. The accompanying video comes as a piece inspired by the work of photographer, Jean François Suavé, the photographer behind the cover with the accompanying illustrations by artist Ema Gaspar. Daniela then co-directed with the award-winning director, Jeremy Comte to produce the visual for ‘Puddles’, blending mixed media art and fragmented reflections.
Andrade, who has previously collaborated with the likes of Ryan Hemsworth and S. Carey (Bon Iver) this time teamed up with the tipped Toronto musician/producer, Harrison on the new track with Daniela laying down the blueprint for the music before passing the track through to Harrison who provided the bassline. The result is a scintillating mix of pitch-shifted vocals and woozy electronics that once again looks to push the envelope with Andrade’s style.
Speaking about the track, Daniela says:
"After hitting a lull during quarantine trying to continue work on my album, I decided to take a step back and write from a place with no specific goal in mind. Spending as much time as I could outside when the weather warmed up brought back tons of memories of past summers spent.
‘Puddles’ is specifically about a field near my parents' house where I’d spend hours lying under pine trees. Sometimes with friends.
A lot of times doing or saying things for the first time. It's the first track I wrote for what became “Nothing much has changed, I don’t feel the same.”
Daniela’s forthcoming EP, Nothing much has changed, I don't feel the same, follows 2019’s Tamale EP & will be out September 30, 2020 via Crooked Lid.
