Anna Prior

Metronomy Drummer and DJ Anna Prior shares new solo single "Easier Alone" via her new record label Beat Palace.

ANNA PRIOR, DJ and Metronomy musician, is excited to share her new solo single "Easier Alone".

The follow-up to last year’s acclaimed debut “Thank You For Nothing” is a soaring, staccato pop track which features an arpeggio at centre stage.

“"Easier Alone” is a song about letting good things go,"

explains Anna.

"It's about all those healthy friendships, relationships, situationships that just become stifled under the weight of the expectation we place on ourselves.

The relationships that you know would be nourishing and supportive, if only you could let someone love you without your own limits."

“It's true though, most things ARE easier on your own. Except moving house, tug-o-war and writing a song, at least in my case.

I loved working with Jules Rosset again on this track - he helped me steer the music in a much more interesting direction (the song was called ‘piano thing’ for months before that) and most importantly, always responded to my maniacally composed emails of ideas within 5 minutes of me sending

them - a perfect match for the over thinker.”

"Easier Alone" was featured as Lauren Laverne's While You Were Sleeping track earlier today on BBC 6 Music and is Anna's second single, released on her own freshly-minted record label, Beat Palace.

It follows 2021's acclaimed "Thank You For Nothing". Written during a strict lockdown in her adopted home of Lisbon, it was a summery, uplifting tune with lyrics about the beach and copious amounts of sangria.

"Metronomy’s metronome goes it alone and turns a phrase usually associated with EastEnders melodrama into a Robyn-worthy Balearic club kiss-off," said The Guardian; while other international media outlets praised its "breezy island vibe and a very addictive hook."

Anna Prior is more than just the drummer in globally successful band Metronomy; she’s a DJ and musician in her own right. Her monthly radio show, Beat Palace, on London’s Soho Radio has many devoted listeners. She describes her show as an explorative mission into the rhythmical unknown. The same can be said of her DJ sets and live performances.

Anna began her career in music 20 years ago, perfecting her craft and gaining invaluable experience as a performer in the live music scene - more notably with Dev Hynes aka Blood Orange and with her friends and co-conspirators Metronomy, with whom she has been going steady for over a decade.

The desire to start her own label had been brewing over the many years she spent on the other side of the music industry. Curious about this mysterious other world and becoming more and more inspired by the music she played on her radio show, Anna took the plunge in 2021 and founded Beat Palace Records.

With the label’s logo being designed by her sister, Kate Prior; photography by Cristiana Morais; a previous music video directed by Lydie Barbara and with an upcoming remix by the Portuguese producer Violet, it’s easy to understand where Anna’s intentions lie.
