Always You

Always You are today sharing their new single, "Black City Nights" on May 18 alongside announcing news of their second album (first under the new name), Bloom Off The Rose which is out July 16 via Shelflife / Discos de Kirlian.

Brothers, Anton and Christoph Hochheim of the LA-based project, Always You – formerly known as Ablebody – are today announcing details of their second album, Bloom Off The Rose which comes produced by Jerry Paper (aka Lucas Nathan) and is out via Shelflife / Discos de Kirlian on July 16, 2021. The pair, who were previously part of the New York synth-pop group, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart with Anton also a member of Beach Fossils, are sharing the news via the crystalline-pop of their new single, "Black City Nights" which arrives with a video directed by Nathan Castiel.

The Hochheim brothers emerged as Ablebody via the dream breeze-driven All My Everything EP followed by the serene glam power-pop single "After Hours", a precursor to the smart and sophisticated full-length debut Adult Contemporaries which found Ablebody earning critical acclaim across the board. Fast forward over the course of four years full of changes, romance, discovery, and more, the duo, now titled Always You, presents the much-anticipated follow-up. Bloom Off The Rose comes developed in Christoph’s apartment, on the road with Jerry Paper, The Pains and Beach Fossils, and features assists from bassist Jordan Sabolick with mixing/mastering provided by Kenny Gilmore (Weyes Blood, Julia Holter, Chris Cohen) and Josh Bonati (Mac Demarco, Wild Nothing, Slowdive).

“The subject matter is life as vignettes,”

Christoph describes,

“Snapshots and stories of my relationships, mainly the one I'm just coming out of as viewed from different moments in our timeline, often projected imagined futures and mourning losses yet to come.”

These sentiments of growth and change ring bright and true with this first single, "Black City Nights", a track that thrives and reverberates in the spatial city light luster, something underpinned further with the accompanying visual which finds the pair working as chauffeurs around a neon-coated city, transporting lost souls and forgotten heroes. Here, Anton, Christoph, and company encapsulate the brightest moments of their past two decades of experience, seamlessly executing an assertive take on indie-pop economics, filled with glistening guitars and incandescent beams of synth.

Speaking about the new single, Christoph of the band says:

"'Black City Nights' is a song for the disheveled and defeated, a vivid depiction of long sleepless nights, chasing ghosts of one’s past and future, lost bets, and blind optimism that the next big break is just around the corner. It’s about loneliness and what people do to escape it, as well as the hopefulness that keeps us pushing through."
