Alex Amor

Scotland's Alex Amor shares new single 'Dare You', the first track from Summer is Sweet with You.

Rising Scottish artist Alex Amor shares new single dare you’, co-written and produced with Simon Byrt (Babeheaven) and Karma Kid (Bakar, Shygirl). ‘dare you’ is the first track from Summer is Sweet with You, a project which coincides with Alex’s debut live shows. Alex is set to appear at Dot To Dot Festival in Bristol & Nottingham and Liverpool Sound City, with more to be confirmed. She recently performed live at The Usher Hall, Edinburgh as part of the Wide Days Festival.

On the new track and project, Alex comments;

“‘dare you’ is about taking risks while the sun is still high in the sky. I wanted the track to feel like summer heat: a warm and steady haze that lifts you up on brighter days.

It's about opening yourself up to all potentials and possibilities. Making a bet on someone, with the hopes that it'll pay off in the long run. Because life is too short to always play it safe.”

Alex made her mark last year via her debut EP Love Language, which gained praise from the likes of The Scotsman, Clash, Notion and BBC Radio 1 via Annie Mac and Sian Eleri. Also produced alongside Alex’s key collaborator Karma Kid, the five track EP documented the progression of a relationship, touching on the complexities and heights of human relations, the restlessness of youth, and the inevitable demise of a relationship when both sides recognise they don’t align.

The EP’s themes were epitomised by key singles ‘Prove Me Right,’ ‘The Part With Each Other’ and title track Love Language’.

Hailing from suburban Glasgow, Alex grew up singing in choirs, inspired by their ethereal sound as much as she was the lyricism and syncopation of rap. For Alex Amor, limitation was the key to creativity. In the summer of 2018, Alex cleared her calendar and dedicated months to writing and recording music.

This act marked a transitional point for Alex as an artist, and saw her relocate alone to London. By the conclusion of her first year in a new city, she had written over a hundred demos, the genesis of her debut EP. Summer Is Sweet with You marks a continuation in momentum for this bright young songwriter as she moves toward her next chapter.
