Silica Gel return with “BIG VOID” following Japanese Breakfast collaboration and 15,000-cap headline show.

Silica Gel, the Korean alternative band rapidly emerging as one of the most influential voices in modern K-rock - have returned with a new single, “BIG VOID”, out now on streaming services worldwide. The release follows their acclaimed collaboration with Japanese Breakfast on July’s “南宮FEFERE”, a milestone moment that helped propel the group’s growing international profile.
The single also marks another major breakthrough in what has been a defining year for the band. Since returning from their two-year hiatus for mandatory military service, Silica Gel have become one of Korea’s most visible and decorated indie acts, headlining festivals such as Incheon Pentaport, sharing top billing alongside Turnstile, Jack White, RIDE, and Girl in Red, winning Musician of the Year at the 2024 Korean Music Awards, and supporting Noel Gallagher across Korea.
Their upward momentum was made unmistakable when nearly 15,000 fans filled KINTEX for the band’s largest-ever solo concert.
“BIG VOID” was first unveiled as a surprise moment during their theatrics heavy headline Korean show, dubbed 'Syn.THE.Size X' in August, where its mantra-like hook - “into the giant void” - quickly became a fan-favourite. Built on bright piano motifs, the track pairs existential tension with an unexpectedly hopeful sense of lift. It also continues the sonic evolution the band began with “南宮FEFERE”, moving away from their metallic, industrial earlier work toward a more organic, expansive palette.
Across the past year, Silica Gel have taken this new direction to festival stages across Asia, performing at Korea’s Grand Mint Festival 2025 and WONDERLIVET 2025, Singapore’s Baybeats Festival, and Taiwan’s Golden Indie Music Awards (GIMA), where they were awarded Best Asian Creative Artist. Each performance has reinforced the band’s ability to transcend borders, genres, and language, accelerating their rise as a leading force not only in Korean alternative music but the broader Asian indie landscape.
The release is accompanied by a new music video from director Song Kiho, a member of interdisciplinary collective Azikazin Magicworld and the visual architect behind much of Silica Gel’s aesthetic, including the celebrated music video for “Tik Tak Tok”. Kiho also served as creative director for Syn.THE.Size X and deepening the visual universe around the band’s current era.
Silica Gel will finish the year with their Syn.THE.Size X Japan Tour 2025, bringing the show to Osaka and Tokyo on December 22 and 23, before performing on one of Korea’s largest year-end stages at Countdown Fantasy 2025–2026.
With “BIG VOID,” Silica Gel open a bold new chapter, one that further cements their place as one of Korea’s most forward-thinking and globally resonant bands.
