pyncher release new single 'The Eight Legged Band' via Heist or Hit taken from their new EP out November 20th.

Manchester risers pyncher share new single ‘The Eight Legged Band’, the title-track of their new EP out November 20th via Heist or Hit. It lands with an offbeat agriculturally centred music video.
Alex Greaves at The Nave retains production duties on new release ‘The Eight Legged Band’ but the EPs DNA dates back to a scrounge from fellow Manchester mainstay TTSSFU.
“A couple of years ago I started recording with more drum machines and weird synths. My friend Tasmin (TTSSFU) let me use her Casio that she got for cheap from a charity shop and it became
a bit of inspiration for the project,”
shares lead vocalist Sam Blakeley.
“I should probably give it back to her now.”
The opening seconds of the new single and title track sound like those early bedroom synth experiments, before popping into actuality on a wave of syncopated Casio keys and a bass line that sounds like punctuation; systematic, grounding, and making sense of the swirl. The prevailing Gorillaz-meets-Arctic Monkeys sway is the perfect bed for Sam’s sardonic vocals that snarl, yelp and, at points, gargle under themes of hope, regret, getting older and things left unsaid.
“It was fun recording the backing vocals, the ‘LaLa Las’. I did endless takes trying to make up different characters and voices, which resulted in the sound of a choir of Victorian children.”
he admits
Speaking further on the themes, he elaborates:
“'The Eight Legged Band' is about wanting to be someone different and being too afraid to take a leap of faith. There’s a relationship running through it, too, but ultimately, it’s about a wider existential anxiety around growing up, the things you leave unsaid, and whether you’re making the most of the time you’ve got.”
The new EP follows hot on the heels of previous EP I Really Mean It This Time as well as an acclaimed set at BBC 6 Music Festival in Manchester and a tour supporting The Sophs across the UK and Europe, and many buzzy festival appearances through the summer.
The quartet find themselves as a central part of a revitalised Manchester music scene, falling in with Westside Cowboy, TTSSFU, Martial Arts, Wyatt and more in drawing eyes to the city. Press backing from Interantional media outlets, alongside spins with BBC 6 Music highlight a band on the rise.
A headline jaunt through November and December offers the chance to experience the method in the madness in its natural environment.
