Isle of Wight indie upstarts ugly ozo announces 'dive' EP via REX RECS & shares new single 'overkill'

ugly ozo announce their ‘dive’ EP, set for release May 1st via REX RECS, and share new track ‘overkill’, out now following its BBC 6 Music Huw Stephens premiere.
The ever-evolving vision of Jessica Baker, ugly ozo’s second EP marks a bold new chapter in their sonic diary exploring the messy, unfiltered corners of the female experience. Joined by sister Boo Baker (bass) and Tristan Northard (drums), the band blend raw vulnerability with electrifying hooks that demand attention, and have rapidly become one of the most talked about acts on the emerging indie landscape.
Following the critical acclaim of their late 2025 debut EP ‘stargirl’, lauded by the likes of, Rough Trade, Under The Radar, and International media outlets, ugly ozo are primed to build on their momentum with a new collection of tracks that push their artistry further.
Radio support spans BBC 6 Music’s Huw Stephens, Steve Lamacq, Iggy Pop, Nathan Shepherd, Deb Grant, Chris Hawkins and Amy Lamé, as well as John Kennedy (Radio X) and Cheryl Waters (KEXP).
Signed to REX RECS, the new indie label founded by producer Macks Faulkron, the EP was written and recorded at REX Studio, a creative hub that has hosted artists including Caroline Polachek, Confidence Man and Daniel Avery.
With sold-out shows (incl. a London headliner at the Sebright Arms later in March) and upcoming festival appearances (following recent gigs alongside Alien Chicks and Ellis-D), ugly ozo are carving their own space in the indie scene and becoming impossible to ignore.
Speaking on ‘overkill’, Jessica Baker explained:
“‘overkill’ tells the story of loving someone who you know, deep down, doesn’t meet your standards and doesn’t treat you right - but staying anyway. Not for romance or hope, but out of loneliness, laziness, fear, and the comfort of routine. It’s the truth no one wants to admit: sometimes we cling to the wrong person because being alone feels scarier than being unhappy.”
ugly ozo’s ‘overkill’ is out now via REX RECS and available on all digital platforms.
