The Youth Play announce new EP someday, forever and share new single 'Maybe This Was All For Us'.

Following the release of track 'A Fair Life' last month, which saw support from Apple Music, KEXP, NME, DIY, The Line Of Best Fit, Official Charts, CLASH, plus multiple plays from BBC 6 Music, today The Youth Play announce new EP someday, forever out 15th August as well as sharing new single 'Maybe This Was All For Us', a song about the anxiety of being an immigrant.
Fronted by Latin American migrant Diego Bracho, they’re proof that the future of British guitar music is as diverse as it is exciting, and while nationalism rises, The Youth Play stand proudly as a testament to the importance of multiculturalism, particularly in British music, with the hope that Diego gets to stay in the UK.
Diego breaks down the meaning of 'Maybe This Was All For Us',
“The song is about my experience of immigration, and the looming anxiety that applying for the right to remain in a country can put on your whole life.
The lyrics are biographical about my journey, but also aims to represent all of those who find themselves in difficult times, especially with the ongoing displacement and deportation scenario around the world.
It’s a desperate call about trying to get your head out of situations that are sucking up your enjoyment of life- how hard it can be to break cycles, and to keep yourself involved in a world full of global crisis without compromising your own stability or mental health.”
With much of new EP someday, forever touching upon many of Diego's personal experiences, he explains
“The EP delves mainly into our social, environmental, and humanitarian crisis and the human experience around those. It’s a combination of frustrating and truly painful moments, and how they intersect with experiences that are hopeful and life affirming.
It also explores self appreciation at times where you struggle to recognise your selfworth, letting go of the past and situations that are out of your reach and truly believing in yourself as the only true constant in this life.
Searching for joy in times that feel joyless.”
To celebrate the release of their new EP, The Youth Play will throw a party at London's Mascara Bar on Friday 29th August. Tickets on-sale Friday (20th June) at 10am BST.
Growing up in Mexico City, Diego's path to music wasn’t direct. He worked as an environmental scientist in a lab in Barcelona, developing bioplastics from food waste, only to realise that meaningful progress was being blocked by profit margins and corporate interests. Frustrated by the slow pace of change, he turned to music, believing it could reach more people, inspire more action, and make a more meaningful impact. As the son of a working class Mexican and an Argentinian refugee - migration, reinvention, and resistance are as much a part of Diego’s DNA as they are his lyrics.
Both Diego and bassist Alex, gave up their 9-to-5 careers to study and pursue music, and that’s where they met younger bandmates, Harrison and Fin. Between classes at ICMP, The Youth Play was formed, and Diego’s songwriting collided with a different set of heavier British influences, drawing from shoegaze pioneers such as Slowdive, The Jesus & Mary Chain, and My Bloody Valentine.
In a quite Orwellian nature, someday, forever explores how people strive to find joy throughout times of desperation and hopelessness, and The Youth Play are a catalyst for change.
