The XCERTS share new single "in your eyes" & announced for 2000 Trees Festival.

Today, The XCERTS unveil their powerful new single “in your eyes,” the latest glimpse of new music from the long-standing Aberdeen-formed trio.
Where recent single “do it to myself” reintroduced the band with a burst of restless urgency, “in your eyes” reveals another side of The XCERTS’ songwriting: expansive, reflective and quietly devastating. The track builds from delicate beginnings into a sweeping emotional crescendo, balancing fragility with the widescreen intensity that has long been a hallmark of the band’s sound.
Formed in 2001 and unchanged ever since, vocalist and guitarist Murray Macleod, bassist Jordan Smith and drummer Tom Heron have spent more than two decades building a reputation as one of the UK’s most emotionally resonant alternative bands.
Now based in Brighton, that enduring connection, both musically and personally, continues to define everything they create.
Speaking about the track, Macleod says:
"in your eyes” is without question the most raw and personal song we’ve ever written. Fundamentally, it’s about loss. The loss of what I deemed to be forever love and the cruelty of cancer.
The closing lines of the song are ‘this isn’t goodbye, this is I’ll love you forever’ which serves as a full stop but also has an open-ended feel to it. It’s a desperate grieving cry, but while writing the words, I also thought, well, if this is the last thing we ever create then that’s the message I want to ring out in Jordan, Tom and our fan base’ ears.
I’m aware it’s overly sincere, but it’s true, and the truth is all we wanted to convey. The song finishes with Jordan’s mum blowing a kiss and saying “I love you” which is extremely emotional, but it was important for her to close out this song as it belongs to her."
The track comes at a busier moment for the band. Earlier this week, The XCERTS returned to the stage at London's The Lexington for DIY for their first live performance since September, as well as reinvigorating fans with their catalogue of huge choruses.
The band also performed the live premier of "do it to myself" and left the stage to the audio of "in your eyes", teasing what was to come.
The trio have also just been announced for this summer’s 2000trees Festival, their first festival announcement for 2026 and something of a spiritual home for the group.
