SUUNS

SUUNS - Ben Shemie, Joe Yarmush, and Liam O'Neill - share a new single, “BREATHE (feat. Jerusalem In My Heart),” from their forthcoming EP, FICTION, out October 30th on Joyful Noise Recordings.

Following lead single “PRAY,” “BREATHE” is a fully instrumental track, brimming with relentless claps and buzuks from longtime friend of the band Radwan Ghazi Moumneh (Jerusalem In My Heart).

Upon the release of "BREATHE" and for the following 48 hours, all proceeds from sales of the track and the FICTION EP - both digital & physical - will be donated to the Basmeh and Zeitooneh Relief and Development.

Speaking about the new track, as well as their reasons for donating to this organisation, the band said

"This is us and Radwan Ghazi Moumneh having a good time, doing our thing, a moment in time among so many in our long and deep friendship together.

Through him, we've had the privilege to visit and play in Beirut, a city of resilience and electricity, whose spirited people have become our enduring friends. We've been touched by the warmth of the people and changed by the depth of the music.

Our love for it is deep, and it was beyond heartbreaking to witness the tragic destruction of August 4, 2020, and the suffering that persists even as the news media moves on.  For the first 48 hours, all sales from your purchase of BREATHE, and both physical and digital pre-orders of the FICTION EP, will go directly to Basmeh and Zeitooneh Relief and Development, a foundation that supports the most marginalized communities in the Middle East.

That is to say, NOW IS THE TIME. This is our small way of reminding you to keep Beirut in your thoughts and in your payee list, and to say to Beirut that we love you."

To celebrate the release of the EP, the band is offering an advanced listening party this Friday, October 9th at 5pm EST via Joyful Noise Recordings’ Youtube. The band will introduce the EP with a small chat before playing the audio in full. They'll stick around after for a brief Q&A with fans (questions can be asked via YouTube's livestream chat function). SUUNS are future-oriented. New sounds, new techniques, new ways of thinking; above all, new environments are the lifeblood of the band. And true to form, here on the FICTION EP, SUUNS are exploring fresh processes as a result of their current surroundings and global circumstances.

On the FICTION EP, new sounds and sonic directions are fashioned out of old. A year-long period of limited resources and contact inspired the band to reflect on the various environments in which they've created music over the years: to comb through their previous sounds and creative approaches, and fuse them together with new ideas, ultimately producing a sort of future/past alchemy. The FICTION EP is as much a project of curation as it is one of creation: sifting, re-imagining, and re-framing, sometimes completely disassembling and then building from the ground up. Each song is a live-off-the-floor recording that was then taken into isolation and re-worked. It's the sound of SUUNS regrouping, and then poised, and then driving towards the future.

The FICTION EP is the first preview of more new music to come in 2021.
