Shaking Hand share In for A… Pound!, taken from their upcoming debut album (out 16th Jan). Contrasting the gentle build of previous singles, it’s 5 minutes of taught, contorting post-rock, drawing from Ought, Women & 90s US alternative. Working titles included 'techno one' and 'Ellis plays the same bassline forever and ever' - you get the gist...
The band’s musical DNA runs through experimental guitar outfits like Slint, Sonic Youth, Pavement, and Ulrika Spacek, balanced with the melodic sensibility of Big Thief and the dynamic intimacy of Yo La Tengo. Their compositions push against structure: sudden jolts of tempo, polyrhythms that almost fall apart, and riffs that unravel into something fragile or ecstatic.
The album artwork is taken from unused plans for the 1970s redevelopment of Los Angeles by architect Ray Kappe, entitled ‘People Movers’. Shaking Hand are George Hunter (Vocals, Guitar), Freddie Hunter (Drums) & Ellis Hodgkiss (Bass).
