Prince Josh announces new album, MOTH, and shares trip hop single "The Glory".
Prince Josh born Josh McIntyre is a producer, songwriter and DJ based in Toronto Canada. He is best known as half of the electronic pop duo Prince Innocence as well as the Mexican Summer / Captured Tracks post-punk outfit Little Girls.
He released his debut album The Joy (2020) to resounding critical acclaim followed by remixes and singles for Nervous Records, Kitsune and Italians Do It Better.
Today he announces his return with the upcoming album Moth, set for an August 25th release date via Hand Drawn Dracula. Working with award winning producer Jim Anderson (Moby, Mark Ronson, Massive Attack) and Joel Ford (Oneohtrix Point Never, Jacques Greene, Com Truise), Moth marks a stylistic shift from McIntyre’s hazy lo-fi take on dance music to a crisp three dimensional sound rooted in an early trip hop that could be found on a “Late Night Tales” compilation. Having hit a wall trying to find material to sample he started writing full songs with the intention of ripping them apart to create something new. The idea evolved into a process of recording two separate works for each track and piecing them together into a much larger musical puzzle. Today McIntyre releases the new single "The Glory", which features a resampled vocal taken from the spring teaser single “The Glory (Reprise)”. The track spotlights where the new album takes things, with an unmistakable groove with elements of both downtempo and an early morning haze, a track ripe for an early summer early soundtrack. On the track, McIntyre offers:
"'The Glory' is a collaboration between Lauren Armstrong and I. The original concept for the album was to make songs with the intention of resampling them to create new work.
“The Glory” is the original version of The Glory (Reprise). Both tracks feature the same vocal, however one version is pitched and chopped and the other is the original phrasing.
Instead of creating small sections of music to sample, I wanted to make full songs to create a library of sounds to work with.
Sections of 'The Glory' appear throughout the album."
