Brighton-based HIGHDRIVE announce their signing to Venn Records (Bob Vylan, Witch Fever) and release pummelling debut single 'Cherry'.

Blending post-punk grit with shoegaze textures and flashes of nu-metal intensity, 'Cherry' captures the pressure, power and politics of modern life in a haze of crushing distortion.

Produced by Coach Party drummer Guy Page, 'Cherry' is a ferocious, immersive introduction to a band unafraid to fuse aggression and atmosphere, channelling the work of acts including Deftones, The Jesus and Mary Chain and DIIV, wrapped around a haunting vocal delivery.

A fusion of haunting vocals, fuzzy guitar tones and explosive rhythm work - 'Cherry' lyrically stares straight at societal collapse, as vocalist Lucas Leith explains:

"Cherry is about sitting with anger, but also about the desire to push back against apathy in whatever way you can. The song came from a time where it felt (and still feels) like the people with the power and resources to make real change were looking the other way.

I found myself feeling this mix of envy and frustration, watching those who could help the most do so little for those who need it. There’s a kind of hopelessness in that, like you’re shouting into a void.

But I think we have to shout.”

In the last year, before releasing any music, HIGHDRIVE have become a fixture of the South Coast live scene, supporting acts including Do Nothing, TTSSFU, Glare and Spyres.

HIGHDRIVE’s debut single 'Cherry' is out now on Venn Records.

HIGHDRIVE are: Lucas Leitch (vocals, guitar), Eva Jaksi (bass, vocals), Bella Palanques (guitar), Felix Cleeve (guitar), Billy Houghton (drums).
