Big Red share new single “Lost (And Found)” taken from debut album "Big Sur" out 30th Oct.
Today, Big Red - the solo writing vehicle of Joseph Scarisbrick – have shared a new single titled “Lost (And Found)”.
The album follows the news of their highly anticipated debut album Big Sur (out 30th October), as well as both the band’s first two singles “Isn’t He Funny” and “Mission St.”, which saw them earn early plaudits from International media outlets. The band also recently made their first festival appearance with a packed out set at End Of The Road Festival.
Originally conceived as a home for songs that sat outside the world of his other project, The Orchestra (For Now), the band has evolved into a three-piece alongside drummer Charlie Hancock and bassist/vocalist Millie Kirby. Written between London, UK and Santa Cruz, California during the first months of 2025 and recorded live in Devon that April, Big Sur is an album about distance and longing.
The sprawling new single and album closer “Lost (And Found)” serves as the album's emotional centrepiece, cataloguing the countless places a person can disappear inside another person's life. What begins as a tender recollection becomes an obsessive inventory of memories. As Scarisbrick repeats the phrase "I've been lost" across an ever-growing litany of locations and experiences, the song transforms heartbreak into geography itself. By its conclusion, loss has become all-encompassing, yet beneath the longing remains a quiet act of care: "But don't mind me / I still worry about you."
Speaking on the track he continues
“This song was never meant to make it onto the record. I had the first half, but knew it wasn’t complete. I was flying back from SFO, very sad and confused, and I started writing what became a beat-style list-form poem.
It was all over in a matter of minutes and the woman next to me asked if I was ok. When I got home, jet lagged as fuck, I just started droning on an open E and I remember playing it out for the first time lay in bed guitar on my chest and fell asleep. Woke up 9 hours later and recorded the first demo.
We left for the studio that same day and recorded it. At the end of the song you can hear me and Charlie crying.”
At the album’s centre lies an imagined journey to the cliffs of Big Sur. The destination itself becomes increasingly elusive. Across the record, California exists less as a real place than a state of mind - something hoped for, mythologised and, ultimately, unreachable. By the album's closing moments, Scarisbrick arrives at a stark realisation: "We never made it to Big Sur / I guess this kind of looks the same."
Big Sur inhabits a world of deconstructed Americana. Its songs draw on the narrative instincts of country music while rejecting nostalgia and sentimentality. Where Scarisbrick's previous work frequently relied on dense references and literary allusion across The Orchestra (For Now)’s Plan 75 and Plan 76 EPs, Big Sur takes a more direct approach. The writing is confessional; often opening up in brutal honesty.
That sense of exposure extends to the recording itself. Big Sur was captured entirely live by three musicians in a room, with minimal overdubs and virtually no studio embellishment. A second guitar appears occasionally; a cowbell surfaces here and there. Otherwise, what remains is the sound of a band playing together in real time.
The result is an album defined by immediacy. There are few places to hide. Every hesitation, every crack in the voice, every moment of tension remains intact.
Following the album’s release, Big Red will play their first headline tour with an earlier appearance End Of The Road Festival in early September. Dates are as follows:
