Their first steps as a band and building their sound, began in their town Santa Clarita California at William's bedroom, Together Pangea have continually challenged themselves with each subsequent offering.
With Jelly Jam (2010) poured the petrol, Living Dummy (2011) struck the match, and Badillac (2014) lit the fire with its revved up nineties rock-inspired flames.
Along the way, fan favourites like "Sick S**t," "Badillac," and "Offer" would rack up millions of Spotify streams.
“It might be confusing for people, assuming we’re like this garage punk band and then hearing this record,”
“But we really don’t want to get trapped at all.”
says singer & songwriter William Keegan.
"Snakedog" became a plot point in a crazy episode of NCIS and "Sick S**t" soundtracked a trailer for HBO's Animals, while the group received support from media around the US and UK.
Following the 2015 release of The Phage EP, released via Burger Records, and produced by The Replacements' Tommy Stinson, they independently embarked on the journey to what would become Bulls and Roosters.
Now it represents their growth as a tried-and-true rock band with just the right amount of "brattiness," as they like to say.
Bulls and Roosters is their latest full-length album and their first one at the first for the distinguished label Nettwerk.
With Bulls and Roosters, Together Pangea managed to hit a sweet spot between writing rock ‘n’ roll songs worthy of being hummed twenty years from now and maintaining the brash and ballsy bite fans know and love.
Co-produced by Together Pangea and longtime collaborator Andrew Schubert, and mixed by Chris Coady (TV On The Radio, Beach House, The Black Lips), Bulls and Roosters was recorded to two-inch tape at Golden Beat studios in Los Angeles and showcases a more matured sound than prior efforts. (Nettwerk)
"It's important to never make the same album twice... if there's any concerted effort from us, that's it. We wanted to try new things and experiment with making music that wasn't so aggressive or fast,"
"Rather than worrying about any expectations, we were like,'Fuck all that. Let's be as honest as we can possibly be.' Sure it's growth, but there's still a brattiness to it."
said William Keegan.
To celebrate the release of this amazing album, here is a small funny conversation with singer songwriter and guitar player William Keegan to speak about this new and exciting era for Together Pangea.
Bizzarre: What surrounds you right now?
William Keegan: David, Lucas, Quincy and King. They are smoking weed and watching Ballers on HBO GO.
B: What would you like to change of your life?
WK: Go back in time and not go to college. Student loans blow.
B: When was the last time you heard your favourite album (and which one is)
WK: My favorite album changes all the time. Right now its probably '(What's The Story) Morning Glory’ by Oasis. I listened to it last week.
B: If you had the chance to impose a law in the world, what it would be?
WK: No Haters
B: How many things happened and changed (professionally) after the amazing 2011' Living Dummy?
WK: We have tuners now, we didn’t have tuners back in the Living Dummy days so now we are in tune when we play.
B: You toured with great crazy artists and bands such as Ty Segall, Black Lips and Wavves, tell us how was this experience and if you were in danger hanging out with some of them..
WK: We only really did a small run with Black Lips in Europe, and that was only 3 shows. We opened for Ty one time, and we played with Wavves only at the first Burgerama festival. I see Nathan (Wavves) and Ty around LA all the time, never any danger. When we were in Amsterdam with Black Lips years back we ended up at The Minds which is an old punk bar and just played pool til real early in the morning. Nothing too crazy. The crazier tour to talk about was the one we just finished with Twin Peaks but you didn’t ask so...
Twin Peaks - "Wanted You"
B: The album was recorded totally in your city, L.A., what does this city give you to inspire you?
WK: Its just convenient. I'd really like to record somewhere else to be honest. We all grew up in LA and the studio was just around the corner from our house. So yeah, convenience.
B: Andrew Schubert is the master mind behind co-producing this album...
WK: We’ve been working with Andrew since day one, he is family. It's only gotten better over time. Love that boy with all our hearts.
B: Bulls and Roosters will be perfectly related to relationships, frustration, love fights, the perfect soundtrack for our lives, tell us how did you translate that rage and power into amazing lyrics and vibrant songs?
WK: A lot of pretzels. Eating pretzels while writing music is the secret for us.
